On Sunday I went around the corner to Port Havannah which was fine, 20 knots broad reach…
BUT coming back om Monday it was 30 knots on the nose with a short
steep sea.
4 tacks to get around Devils Pt…its very turbulent there….learnt a lot about how to sail this boat in a short space of time…tacking in big seas
is interesting to say the least…but doableon my own….the electric winches and furlers of course make life much easier, although I’ve found that it is
impossible to furl the main if it has any pressure on it…the main sheet has to be really slack o’wise the boom motor can’t drive the outhaul car…in or out…but the trick is to be just off the wind …about 10-20 deg max with the sheet slack and then it all works like magic…
The genoa is no issue at all except for having to furl it for a tack o’wise it can’t clear the inner forestay….
So…avg sped on the way back was just over 6 knots, and that was hard on the wind all the time…so all in all, I’m pretty pleased with it.
And here's some pics from Port Havannah
