The tall ship R Tucker Thompson in the Bay of Islands - beautiful!
Judith and I spent two weeks in the beautiful Bay of Islands in February. The first week was beautiful, we had friends Leigh and Murray on the boat for a couple of days and we had a great time.
Dropped them off at Doves Bay Marina and then the weather went foul. We spent 4 days locked up in Te Puna inlet while it howled and rained....we were well sheltered in there, but outside it was blowing 35-40 knots most of the time - YUK !
Dropped Judith off at Doves Bay to catch the plane back to Australia.
I took Elyse to Opua to pick up my two mates, both Peters, who came to do the trip down to Auckland

We motored out to Opunga Cove for the night and then headed off the next morning. It was totally overcast and not much wind, what there was was on the nose. This is the view of Piercy rock opposite Cape Brett as we made our way south to Tutukaka.
The mainland just south of Cape Brett, looking West.
The next day Tutukaka to Kawau was a bit trying. 30-40 knots from the SSW, we had to motor sail, and not very fast at that.
Coming into Kawau Bay, in order to tack past Maori rock e had to go two miles south in order to lay clear of it. Then motoring in the bay with 35 knots on the nose, there was a Raven tacking back and forth with two people on it in foul weather gear, only a small jib. By the time we were entering Bon Accord Harbour, the Raven was way over the other side of the bay, taking back again!
Pleasant evening at Kawau and off to Gulf Harbour the next morning. Now parked on N25 at Gulf Harbour, the next thing is the haul out on April 10 for antifouling.
