Went ashore at Makogai to see what was happening with the reconstruction after cyclone Winston.
A fellow we had met before met us at the wharf. He told us there was a young fellow injured and if we had a medical kit could we do something for him. Ha had a gouge in the top of his foot about an inch and a bit long and half an inch wide, with the skin folded back.
I went back to the boat and got the medical kit. I cleaned it up and dressed it, but he needs to go to Hospital. I gave him some antibiotics as well. A big fella who seemed to be in charge said, OK I am going to Levuka, I take him to hospital.
I asked if the old Lister generator was still here....it was...we went and had a look. It's a 1903 Lister diesel...it was used by the leper hospital when it was here and its still going ! In the room next door wrapped in plastic was a modern genset, Chinese, 2 months old, he said, "no good. Water pump broken, doesn't go. Not like Lister, he aircooled, no need for water."
As we came back from a walk along the shore we saw the long boat heading off to Levuka with the young chap on board.
So tomorrow we head to Levuka, the first capital of Fiji.
Cheers
Alan and Gunilla
