Left Makogai around 0830 yesterday and after a lovely eased sheets sail arrived at Levuka at 1230. There was very little sea, wind was around 12-15 knots from the usual direction and negotiating the northern pass into Levuka Harbour was easily done under sail. Anchored just off the town about 200m from the wharf where the tuna canning factory runs 24/7 and is quite noisy outside the boat.
Went for a walk in the town yesterday afternoon to look at bthe colonial remnants of Fiji's first capital, quite interesting. Levuka is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is being sort of looked after in a Fijian way.
This morning they had a market on Beach Street, the waterfront. It was quite lively and friendly and the produce better quality than Savusavu.
Its very hot and with a slight breeze, cooler inside the boat than out.
The oldest restaurant in Fiji is here...Whales Tales...we thought we would sample the fare this evening.
Cheers from Levuka !
