Eventful trip up from Kawau to the Bay of islands......
Big winds from NE on the way to Tutukaka. Genoa furler unfurled itself in 25 knots. The clutch pin popped out by itself. Managed to get it in a position so the genoa could be furled and then used the staysail....Working on the heaving deck was not good..I was sick.....
Next moirning in Tutukaka, took the furler drum apart and discovered the problem. The pin engages in a slot which has become damaged on one side. Reasembled it 180 degrees out so the pin engages in the slot in the opposite side of the ring which is not damaged.
Next day no wind at all...motored all the way to the Bay.
Next day discovered battery voltage down....investigation shows 3 of the 12 batteries not performing...they're 6 volt in banks of 4. 9 batteries 6.3V at rest, 3 batts 4.3V.
They are being replaced under warranty and replacements are at Burnsco Opu ready to pick up today.
Next day the laptop died....3rd time under warranty...need to send it to Auckland, and look for another one. Located cheap one at Kerikeri, but how to get there, rental car guy not around, sends us on a chase to "rent-a-dent", can't find em...ask the marine broker in the shops...he says...how long do you need a car for...about 2 hours I say...take mine he says !!
Amazing !
So we did, dropped off the laptop at the courier pickup shop, went to KK, bought another laptop, went to the New World supermarket and back to Opua in less than 2 hours.
This morning word is that my repaired laptop has had its main board replaced and is delivered back to Burnsco Opua.
So disaster to solutions all inside of a week !
Only issue now is there is NO WIND...and when there is a breeze its from the North, so we're stuck in the Bay for a while I think....
Cheers
